GCF FARM - FEEDING PEOPLE ACROSS NORTH CAROLINA

Thanks to our fantastic volunteers and the money earned from the sale of donated goods at GCF Donation Centers & Stores, the GCF Farm donated more than 130,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Urban Ministry of Durham and Open Table in 2016. We could not have done it without the strong support and efforts of our volunteers.

As we expand our growing capability and continue the use of the greenhouse in the colder months, the commitment of volunteers continues to be important.

Volunteers assist with seeding, planting, cultivating, and harvesting in the greenhouse or on the fields. Everything we grow is donated. The GCF Farm operates year round.

The GCF Farm is located at 4902 Chin Page Road in Durham, just off Interstate 40 and Miami Boulevard beside our corporate office. It is easy to get to from anywhere in the Triangle.

GCF VOLUNTEER CENTER

Several times each year, volunteers are needed to help assemble school supply kits, snoodles and no sew blankets. These items are then distributed to several Boys & Girls Clubs in eastern North Carolina and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. More than 11,000 school kits and over 600 snoodles and no sew blankets were created in 2015.

No-sew blankets and Snoodles are distributed to parents of premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at eastern North Carolina hospitals by GCF Family Support Services.

CURRENT GCF VOLUNTEER CENTER PROJECTS:

No Sew Blanket: Volunteers 12 years and older will cut two pieces of fabric and cut 1" strips around the perimeter of the blanket so parents at the NICU can tie the strips into knots while sitting with their preemies.

No-sew blankets and Snoodles are distributed to parents of premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at eastern North Carolina hospitals by GCF Family Support Services.  The parents will sleep with the Snoodles or No Sew Blanket to transfer their body scent so their preemies can smell Mom and Dad.

Jewelry Processing:  Volunteers 16 years and older will sort and process jewelry to be placed with GCF Donation Center and Stores.
