GCF VOLUNTEER & FARM SERVICES
Thanks to our wonderful support of volunteers and the money earned from the sale of donated goods at GCF Donation Centers & Stores in 2018, the GCF Farm donated over than 120,000 pounds of fresh produce to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and other non-profits.
Volunteers helped assemble 20,000 school kits distributed to Tier 1 schools in eastern North Carolina. Over 400 Snoodles and No Sew Blankets were distributed to parents of premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at eastern North Carolina hospitals by GCF Family Support Services
Farm: Volunteers 12 years and older assist with seeding, planting, cultivating, and harvesting. Everything we grow is donated. Available during the weekdays and Saturday mornings.
Jewelry Processing: Volunteers 16 years and older will sort and process jewelry to be placed within the GCF Donation Center and Stores. Available during the weekdays.
Electronic Recycling: Volunteers 12 years and older will dismantle electronic devices for eco recycling. The ability to use small tools is required. Available on weekdays.
Snoodles: Volunteers 18 years and older proficient with a sewing machine will sew a 1/4” seam around a triangle leaving a gap to insert a pom pom, iron, resew seams and tie knots for the hands. The Snoodles are donated to the local Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for parents to sleep with and transfer their body scent so their premature babies can smell the parent’s scent during their stay at the NICU. Available during the weekdays.
